You Are Not Loyal. You Are Scared (The 10-Year Trap)

You tell yourself you are staying in that career because you are loyal. You tell yourself you are sticking with that relationship because you don't quit. You tell yourself you are grinding through the misery because you are disciplined.

You are lying.

You are not staying because of loyalty, grit, or honor. You are staying because of a cognitive glitch called the Sunk Cost Fallacy.

The Mechanics of the Trap

The Sunk Cost Fallacy is the psychological tendency to continue an endeavor simply because we have already invested money, effort, or time into it… even if the current costs outweigh the benefits.

It is the voice in your head that says: "I can’t leave this job. I’ve spent 10 years climbing this ladder."

So, what do you do? You spend another 5 years climbing it, just to prove the first 10 weren't a waste.

This is the 10-Year Trap. You are terrified that if you walk away now, you are admitting failure. You think that starting over means you lost.

Prisoner vs. Architect

There are two ways to view your past:

1. The Prisoner: The Prisoner looks at the last decade of work and sees a cage. He thinks, "I built this. I have to live in it." He serves a life sentence in a career he hates because he is too proud to admit he built the wrong house.

2. The Architect: The Architect looks at the last decade and sees raw materials. He realizes that the skills, resilience, and pain of the last 10 years are not a cage; they are simply data. He is willing to burn the blueprints and start over, using the wisdom he earned to build something better.

Burn The Boat

If you are staying in a situation solely because of the time you have already spent, you are making a decision based on Dead Capital.

The past is gone. It is spent. You cannot get a refund on those 10 years. The only currency you have left is the time remaining.

Do not spend the next decade trying to justify the last one. Admitting you climbed the wrong mountain isn't failure. Staying on the mountain when you know there is nothing at the top - that is failure.

The Resurrection Briefing

Breaking out of the Sunk Cost Prison requires more than just motivation. It requires a complete System Overhaul. You need to know how to dismantle the old life without destroying yourself in the process.

I am hosting a closed-door, live briefing to teach you exactly how to do this.
